About SportBetTime: An Independent Sports Betting Guide

SportBetTime is an independent guide to sports betting, written in English for adult readers around the world. We explain how odds work, what the common bet types actually pay, how markets differ from one sport to the next and where beginners tend to lose money without noticing. The aim is simple: if you choose to bet, you should understand exactly what you are agreeing to before the money leaves your account.

What the site covers

Most of what we publish falls into three groups.

  • Betting basics. Fractional, decimal and American odds, implied probability, the bookmaker margin, moneylines, spreads and handicaps, accumulators (parlays) and each-way bets.
  • Sport by sport guides. Football (soccer), tennis, horse racing, golf, cricket, the NFL, boxing and Formula 1, with the markets each sport offers and the settlement rules that catch people out.
  • Strategy and discipline. Value, closing prices, record keeping and staking, written for people who want to understand the numbers rather than follow someone else's picks.

We show the arithmetic wherever we can. A guide that says a bet is "good value" without showing the sums is not much use to anyone, so we work through real examples with real stakes and prices.

Who we write for

Our readers are adults in English-speaking markets: the UK and Ireland, the US and Canada, Australia, India, Nigeria, South Africa and elsewhere. Most are beginners or intermediate bettors. Some have placed a few bets and want to know why the returns did not match what they expected. Others are curious about a sport they have never bet on and want the rules explained before they try.

Because the audience is global, we use more than one odds format and more than one set of terms. You will see "acca" and "parlay" side by side, and prices given as both 5/2 and 3.50 where it helps. Betting law is different in every country, and in the US and India it differs from state to state, so we do not tell anyone that betting is legal where they live. Check your local rules and only use operators licensed in your jurisdiction.

What we do not do

Some things are off the table, and we would rather say so plainly.

  • We do not sell tips, picks, memberships or betting systems.
  • We do not promise or imply guaranteed wins, sure bets or risk-free profit. Every bet can lose, and over time the bookmaker margin works against the average bettor.
  • We do not publish tipster records, testimonials or user reviews we cannot verify.
  • We do not explain how to get around geo-restrictions or blocks put in place by regulators.
  • We do not take bets, hold funds or run any kind of betting service. SportBetTime is a publisher, not an operator.

Independence and money

SportBetTime currently has no commercial relationship with any bookmaker. Nobody pays us to mention a brand, and no operator sees or approves our articles before they go live. When an article names a sportsbook, it does so only as a neutral example of how a feature works, not as a recommendation.

We may add affiliate links in the future. If we do, it would mean that we could earn a commission when a reader signs up with an operator through a link on this site. Should that happen, we will say so clearly on the pages concerned and update this page to explain the arrangement. Commercial links will not change how we explain odds, rules or risks, and they will not buy a place in any review. How we plan to assess sportsbooks is set out on our how we review page.

How the content is made

Articles are written and checked by the SportBetTime Editorial Team. We work from primary sources where they exist: governing body rulebooks, the published betting rules and terms of licensed operators, and regulator guidance. Prices and payouts in our examples are worked out by hand and checked again before publication. Each guide shows when it was published and when it was last updated, and we revise articles when rules or markets change. The details are on our editorial policy page.

Adults only, and betting with limits

This site is for adults aged 18+, and in many places the legal betting age is higher, such as 21 in most US states that allow sports betting. If you are under the legal age where you live, this site is not for you.

Betting is entertainment that costs money. Decide on an amount you can afford to lose before you start, keep a record of what you stake, and stop if betting stops being fun. Our responsible gambling page lists warning signs, the limit tools licensed operators offer, and organisations that give free, confidential help.
