SportBetTime Editorial Team

Who writes the guides on SportBetTime, what topics the editorial team covers, and how each article is researched, checked and kept up to date.

Every article on SportBetTime is published under one byline: the SportBetTime Editorial Team. The team writes, edits and checks the guides on this site as a group, and takes collective responsibility for what they say. This page explains what we cover, how a guide is put together, and what we hold ourselves to.

Who we are

We are a small editorial team of English-language writers and editors who follow sport closely and understand how betting markets are priced and settled. We are not bookmakers, tipsters or a betting service. We do not sell picks, and we have no commercial ties to any sportsbook at present. Our job is to explain betting accurately and plainly, so that readers know what they are doing before they put money down.

We publish as a team rather than under individual names because each article passes through more than one pair of hands. The person who drafts a guide is not the person who signs it off, and the byline reflects that shared work.

What we cover

Our guides fall into a few clear areas:

  • Odds and bet types: fractional, decimal and American odds, implied probability, the bookmaker margin, moneylines, spreads and handicaps, accumulators (parlays) and each-way bets.
  • Sports: football (soccer), tennis, horse racing, golf, cricket including the IPL, the NFL, boxing and Formula 1.
  • Strategy: value betting, closing prices, staking and record keeping.
  • Safer betting: limits, warning signs and support services, collected on our responsible gambling page.

We write for a global audience, so guides use more than one odds format and explain where rules or terms differ between countries.

How an article is researched

Research starts with the rules. For a sport, that means the governing body's regulations and the competition format. For a market, it means the settlement rules that licensed operators publish, read across several operators so we can see where they agree and where they differ. A tennis retirement, for example, can void a match bet at one sportsbook and settle it at another, so a guide has to say that rather than pick one answer.

We then build worked examples with real stakes and prices. If a guide says that a £10 each-way bet (£20 in total) at 8/1 with one fifth place terms returns £26 when the horse places but does not win, the arithmetic is shown: the £10 place part is settled at 8/5, which is £16 profit plus the £10 stake back, while the £10 win part is lost.

How it is checked

Before publication, a second member of the team reviews the draft. The review covers three things in order:

1. Accuracy. Every rule is traced to a source, and every number is recalculated from scratch.
2. Completeness. Where a rule varies by operator, competition or country, the text says so.
3. Clarity. A reader who has never placed that kind of bet should be able to follow the example to the end.

Anything that cannot be confirmed is cut. We do not publish invented statistics, quotes, user reviews or operator figures such as bonus sizes or payout speeds.

How it is kept up to date

Each guide shows when it was first published and when it was last updated. We revise articles when a sport changes its format, a governing body updates its rules, or settlement practice among operators shifts. Errors are corrected as soon as we find them, and a correction that changes the meaning of a guide is noted in the article. The full standard is set out in our editorial policy, and readers can report a mistake or ask about a guide through our contact page.

What we will not write

The team does not write about guaranteed wins, sure bets or systems that beat the bookmaker. We do not explain how to get around geo-restrictions or regulator blocks, and we do not encourage chasing losses. We never state that betting is legal everywhere; laws differ by country, and in the US and India by state, so readers are asked to check local rules and use licensed operators. Our content is for adults aged 18+ only.

More about the site itself, including how we would handle affiliate links if we ever add them, is on the about page. The criteria we will apply to any future sportsbook assessment are on the how we review page.
