Oakland Raiders

  • Super Bowl Championships: 3
  • Last Super Bowl Championship: Super Bowl 37
  • Claim to Fame: From 1963 to 1992, the Raiders had the best winning percentage among all major sports teams (66.1%)
  • Claim to Shame: Did not post one winning season from 2003-2015

The Oakland Raiders are one of the NFL’s flagship franchises with a rich and storied history, which is a polite way of saying they’ve been terrible over the last 15 seasons.

The Raiders lack of on-field credibility and close proximity to the beloved San Francisco 49ers has proved challenging for the small market club. Former coach-turned-owner Al Davis moved them down Highway 1 for greener pastures in Los Angeles from 1982 – 1994.

However, LA got bored and the Raiders returned to Oakland with their tails between their legs. Now, many years later, the Raiders are moving to Las Vegas – likely in 2020.

Although they are directly responsible for giving us the poster boy of the greatest sports video game of all-time in John Madden, the Raiders have struggled to cultivate home grown talent since the glory days of the 1970’s.

After a brutal six-win season (5-9-2 ATS) in 2017, new owner Mark Davis went out and signed the best coach in broadcasting, John Gruden.

Gruden assembled a roster (Jordy Nelson, Doug Martin, Tahir Whitehead & Marcus Gilchrist) that would have contended for the 2014 AFC West title. Unfortunately, in 2018, they were only good enough to go 4-12.

The Raiders’ 2019 season depends on every aspect of the team improving. The pass rush was the worst in the NFL after trading away Khalil Mack; the offense was 25th in the league in DVOA; at least kicker Dan Carlson went 16-17!

With Antonio Brown causing a ton of preseason drama, there’s a chance that 2019 goes completely off the rails in Oakland. Or maybe he’ll turn Derek Carr back into the MVP candidate he looked like in 2016 before breaking his leg.
