New York Jets
- Super Bowl Championships: 1
- Last Super Bowl Championship: Super Bowl 3
- Claim to Fame: The Jets were the first AFL team to win the Super Bowl, spurred by Joe Namath’s guarantee
- Claim to Shame: Mark Sanchez has arguably been the team’s most successful quarterback since joining the NFL in 1970
The New York Jets were once the talk of the NFL. Now they’re trying to make the long climb back to the top.
After back-to-back AFC Championship games under Rex Ryan, the Jets have gone seven years without a playoff appearance. In fact, they’ve only had one winning season since then, and they’re coming off of back-to-back 5-11 seasons.
Adam Gase is entering his first year as head coach for the Jets in 2019 after a so-so tenure in Miami.
His main job is to turn 2018 first-round pick Sam Darnold into an elite QB. While Darnold has all the tools and showed potential as a rookie, he’s not exactly working with the best group of wideouts, though Jamison Crowder was a good pickup.
The team will likely need prized offseason acquisition Le’Veon Bell to be just as productive as he was in his best years in Pittsburgh in order for this offense to be playoff-caliber.
On defense, Quinnen Williams, Leonard Williams, and CJ Mosley for a formidable trio in the front seven, while Jamal Adams and Trumaine Johnson are solid members of the secondary. There’s a very good chance the 2019 defense markedly improves on the 2018 unit, which finished 21st in DVOA.
The Jets have big expectations in 2019, and if the roster shows steady progression, this team just may be back in the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
