Cincinnati Bengals

  • Super Bowl Championships: 0
  • Last Super Bowl Appearance: Super Bowl 23 (Lost 20-16 to the San Francisco 49ers)
  • Claim to Fame: Bill Walsh was serving as an assistant coach in Cincinnati when he created the West Coast offense, and Dick LeBeau was their defensive coordinator when he invented the zone blitz
  • Claim to Shame: Went 14 years (1991-2004) without a winning season and have still not won a playoff game since 1990 – the longest drought in the NFL

The father of football in Ohio, Paul Brown, has two sons: the Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Bengals. One of those cities loves and honors their great father, the other city dismissed Brown and chased LeBron away twice.

After being run out of town by the Browns’ controlling owner Art Modell, Paul figured the best way to get even would be to start a new franchise in the Buckeye state and wail away on the team that still bares his name.

Cincinnati holds bragging right with 50-39 edge, having swept the season series three years in a row.

Unfortunately, the Jungle Cats have to play the other NFL teams as well. Over the last three years, the Bengals are just 19-28 straight up, bringing a crashing halt to what had been a streak of five straight playoff berths.

The Bengals recent failures can be credited to two main things: (1) injuries and (2) their habit of not respecting or paying their offensive linemen.

Injuries are rearing their head again in 2019, with AJ Green and first-round pick Jonah Williams sidelined, the latter for the season.

When Green is healthy, there’s a lot of firepower in the skill positions. Green himself is one of the best receivers in football and is criminally undervalued, while Joe Mixon, Tyler Boyd, and Tyler Eifert are also very dangerous. This team can score in bunches when it’s intact.
